Looking for a Fun Family Workout? I’ve found one.

I’ve been waiting for a family workout for years to do with my kids…and it’s finally here!   I was thrilled when I learned about this program.  It’s called Double Time…because you do it with a partner :).

family workoutI am truly passionate about getting and staying healthy and helping others on their journey to better health.   What has amazed me the most when I started my journey 6 years ago, with my own P90X transformation, was the impact that I had on kids as they were always watching and learning.

They sometimes work out with me….my side by side…as I work out right at my home.  And other times they simply ‘play’ around me using my exercise ball, or my step or an agiliyt ladder and workout on the

And of course they’re influenced with better nutrition.  Oh don’t get me wrong…with the nutrition, we’re not perfect…it’s always a work in progress, especially with my kiddos 😉  Can you relate?

So here’s more about the newest family workout – Double Time.

It’s Beachbody’s newest at-home fitness program.  It’s a family workout focused program where every move takes 2 people and TEAMWORK.

  • It teaches us healthy lifestyle habits while we are having FUN! 🙂
  • We get a chance to connect with our kiddos again or even our spouses.  My husband, Greg, and I love working out together every day. It really helped us get connected again in a life where the days literally zoom by so quickly.  We chat, have fun and of course laugh along the way!  We simply do your best together.
  • It gets everyone off the coach, away from the TV and our personal devices.  (Oh…we so need this…the technology enjoyment in our house is crazy!)
  • It comes with a Nutrition plan with simple and easy recipes…including 43 designed with our kids in minds, so they can enjoy their favorites only made healthier. We recently made the 2 of these recipes which I’ll included below and the kids really enjoyed them.
  • The workouts are great for anyone new to exercise or those of us who need to get back on track.
  • There are No weights. No Pull-Ups.  Just a buddy ball that comes with the Beachbody Double Time Challenge pack. Or you can use one of the kids soccer or kick balls.   The workouts are simple cardio, resistance and mobility.

And one of the biggest reasons I love this program is because of the significant impact on our children who are overweight.  The CDC facts on Childhood Obesity Causes and Consequences are disheartening to read – Type 2 Diabetes, heart disease and even cancer.  In a child?!  That makes me so sad 🙁    And, it certainly makes me want to focus even more on my children’s health….not just my own.  And share this great program with anyone else who is concerned about their kiddos.   We simply need to get our children’s activity levels up and TV and mobile devices down.  Double Time is perfect way to get started!  Then we need to add walks and bike riding and simply playing outside as often as possible.

Turkey Meatballs

1 lb. raw lean ground turkey
1/2 tsp.  Himalayan salt
1/2 tsp. ground black pepper
1 large egg, lightly beaten
1/2 cup whole-grain Panko bread crumbs (we use Aleia’s gluten free bread crumbs)
2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
2 Tbsp finely chopped fresh parsley (we will use dry if we don’t have fresh)
2 Tbsp grated Parmesan cheese
2 tsp olive oil
1 medium onion, diced
1 (28-oz.) can whole tomatoes, crushed
1 tsp. dried oregano leaves

Slow Cooker Cheesy Chicken Enchiladas

1 tsp olive oil
1 medium onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
2 medium jalapeño peppers, seeded and deveined, finely chopped  (We only use one or none 😉 )
1 lb. raw ground chicken breast 1½ cups dry farro, rinsed   (We used rice)
1 (15-oz.) can black beans, rinsed, drained
1 cup frozen corn kernels (We purchase Non-GMO of course)
1 (15-oz.) can diced tomatoes, no salt added
1 (10-oz.) can red enchilada sauce (We exchanged for  a marinara tomato sauce)
2 Tbsp. chili powder
1 Tbsp. ground cumin
2 tsp. ground coriander
Himalayan salt and ground black pepper
1 cup shredded Monterey jack cheese
3 medium green onions, chopped
¼ cup finely chopped fresh cilantro (We skip the cilantro as my hubby doesn’t like it)
